Supervisory Development Program
About the programme
This program consists of 6 modules covering 8 Unit Standards.The program is presented over a period of one year. Learners attend two days of classroom training per month. Learners are required to complete and submit a portfolio of evidence in order to receive certificates and credits towards the General Education and Training Certificate: 59300.
Target Market
Entry Level progamme for :
- Newly appointed supervisors and managers.
- Individuals targeted for promotion.
- Current supervisors who need to attend a bridging programme before entering the Fundamentals of Management Programme.

Modules Covered
Introduction to Management and Logistics
A brief overview of the logistics function describing the role of management, specifically linking this to the logistics function.The management competencies are explored and the role of management defined.
Self Development
This module covers both interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.Learners are encouraged to spend time reviewing their self image and ways to develop their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.Learners are required to set goals to develop these skills.
Time Management
Essential time management skills are covered.Learners are given tools to effectively manage their time; goal setting, scheduling, prioritizing, using diaries and compiling to do lists.Time wasters are explored and skills required to manage these time wasters are provided.
People Management
This module provides learners with skills to manage staff.The skills covered include amongst others leadership skills, communication skills, motivation, giving instructions to staff and providing constructive feedback.
Managing poor performance and misconduct
Learners will be skilled in the management of poor staff performance and misconduct within their levels of accountability and authority.Warnings, counseling, charges and disciplinary hearings and enquiries are also covered.
Service Excellence
This final module focuses on the supervisor as an individual as well as his/her role as the team leader cultivating, executing and monitoring service excellence in the workplace.Learners are also skilled to handle customer complaints.

Fundamentals of Management Skills Programme
About the programme
This programme is accredited with Services Seta.It consists of 5 modules and covers 11 Unit Standards and presented over a period of one year.Learners attend two days of classroom training per month. Learners are required to complete and submit a portfolio of evidence in order to receive certificates and credits towards the National Certificate Management 23654.
MODULE 1: The organizational environment
In this foundation module, first line managers are exposed to the business environment in which they operate and the impact on the organisation and their teams. Learners are given the opportunity to explore and identify the core business of the organisation and their role in contributing to the overall success of the business.
MODULE 2: Managing the individual
First line managers need to be able to manage and develop their individual team members.The first line manager must be able to recognise areas where individual team members require skills development and must have the knowledge to manage these to maximum advantage.The counseling of misconduct, communication and motivation of employees are also covered.
MODULE 3: Managing the team
First Line Managers have to work with and through their team in order to achieve their tasks. This module looks at the essential skills for building teams, functioning as a team and maintaining the team.
MODULE 4: Time to Yield
During this session assignments are reviewed feedback given. Learners will be given the opportunity to spend time on the self-study modules: HIV/Aids and the Workplace; Inducting a New Team Member; and Chairing Meetings. The learners have to complete a number of activities on these self-study modules to assess their level of understanding and competence.
MODULE 5: Managing the task
In this final module, first line managers are provided with the essential skills to plan, lead, organize and control their own workload and the workload of their team. This module includes problem-solving, decision-making and time management techniques. Learners are required to run their own business during this final module, which allows them to utilise the new skills, covered as well as consolidate the skills covered in the previous modules.
