Ikaheng's Technical Training Division is a recognized Decentralised Trade Test Center accredited by MERSETA.

We present Automotive Technicians Apprenticeship programmes for major automotive brands in South Africa.

Duration of Apprenticeship Program:

Petrol: The automotive technician apprenticeship program is presented over a period of 4 years.
Diesel: 3 years
Motor Cycle: 3 years.

The training is categorized into 3 levels covering the following topics:

Level 1

  • Safety and First aid knowledge in the workshop
  • Identify Lubricants, metals, and materials
  • Care and use of tool applicable to the trade
  • Identify Locking devices
  • Understanding the fundamentals of lubrication
  • Apply Basic hand skills
  • Identify and fit gaskets and seals
  • Understanding basic electricity
  • Using lifting equipment
  • Performing a service on a motor vehicle

Level 2

  • Studying the fundamentals of technology
  • Identifying brushes and bearing including removal and inspection
  • Servicing of motor vehicle components
  • Identifying exhaust systems
  • Cooling system components
  • Lubrication system components
  • Suspension components
  • Fundamentals of steering and wheel components

Level 3

  • Cylinder heads
  • Engine blocks and their main components
  • Fuel system components
  • Transmission components
  • Brake systems
  • Ignition systems
  • Electrical components

Level 4

  • Advanced Transmission Systems
  • Advanced echanical and lectronic systems
  • High-Speed diesel systems
  • Advanced ignition systems
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Fuel injectors , pumps, filters and diagnosing engine performance
